 FAQs

  • Similar to people who suffer from anxiety disorders such as panic disorders and phobias, dogs suffering from separation related issues (often referred to as separation anxiety) simply don’t have the ability to cope while left alone.

Just ask anyone experiencing phobias of something you might consider “silly” - they’ll tell you they know it’s silly, but cannot contain their emotional (and often physical) response.

  • Contrary to what you might have heard from friends, relatives, and co-workers, you 100% did not cause your dog’s separation anxiety.

A multitude of factors play into the underlying cause, including health, life changes (loss of companion, re-homing, moving, etc), genetic predispositions, and much more.

Simply put, it can be hard to nail down what “caused” your dog’s SA. What we can do is rule out any underlying health concerns with your vet, and start assessing your dog’s alone-time behavior.

  • The common signs that a dog shows when they are experiencing separation related issues include: vocalizations (barking, whining, or howling), pacing, inability to settle for any length of time, being destructive, eliminating, panting, drooling, inability to tolerate being in a crate, or no interest in food.

If you’re noticing your dog’s alone time behavior continue to deteriorate, chances are it’s time to speak with a professional. If you’re not quite ready to talk with us, we highly recommend checking in with your vet.

  • After being thoroughly vetted for professional dog training credentials, a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer receives over 100 hours of separation anxiety specific training from world-leading expert, Malena DeMartini.

With an expert eye, a hive-mind of 200+ highly-engaged CSATs, and weekly meetings with daily guidance and support, you can stop guessing what will work and finally get proven strategies for changing your dog’s behavior. All of this combined leads to calmer dogs, freed owners, and a path to resolution.

  • It depends. A number of factors play a role in your dog’s recovery including age, health, how long they’ve been rehearsing, and even their genetic predisposition (that’s why we see puppies with SA, too!).

While we do work 100% at your dog's pace (the exact same way you’d cure a phobia), we’ll make sure you’re doing every possible task you can to optimize your dog’s recovery.

We want you to have freedom in your life, and will climb mountains for our clients. To ensure the best possible outcome, we provide daily support, data-driven training, and we’ll even facilitate conversations with your vet.
